Lettuce ware is one of my favorite Spring decorating trends for the table.

Dodie Thayer started making lettuce plates by molding them by hand from lettuce and cabbage in the 1960s in palm beach. Jackie O used to serve on lettuce ware.

Dodie Thayer for Tory Burch was released several years ago. The original Dodie Thayer pieces go for thousands at auction. Tory Burch had called up the 90-year-old Dodie Thayer and asked if she would be willing to collaborate. The rest is history.

Now, prior to Dodie Thayer there was Bordallo Pinheiro. Bordallo Pinheiro is a Portuguese artist who began crafting pottery in the 1880s. They are still producing his plates today. His range is the most affordable.
Others made lettuce and cabbage plates too. Below is a pair of 19th century lettuce ware Majolica plates, Ruby Lane

“Magnificent” and they have mixed the perfect green. I do so love all the other vegetable pottery varieties, the Staub pumpkin cocotte is presently my most favorite cooking shape. I have just a few other glazed ceramic plates and terenes, but the above is awesome. The leaves have been perfectly shaped, it must be lovely to see a table setting like that! I prefer the Dodie Thayer crockery the leaves are more detailed hence the price. Thank you for sharing, you have made my day.

I absolutely adore the Staub pumpkin cocotte – it is my favorite thing to cook in too! I didn’t hide it away this year either. yes, the Dodie Thayer ware is certainly not cheap, however the Bordallo Pinheiro line can be found on eBay (and sometimes home goods!) for more reasonable prices.

Have never seen all most of these, only maybe apc. of two, here and there.
