I have recently been asked how I am always happy. Yes, I have good days and bad days like everyone, but most of the time generally speaking, my overall mood is happy. Here are a few tips on how I maintain my happiness.
Focus On Yourself
Yes, it might sound selfish but it’s not. Take some time to spend on yourself. You literally cannot make everyone happy, however you have the power to make yourself happy. What makes you happy? What do you enjoy doing? Then do it! You need to love thyself first.
Focus What You Can Control
There are things within our control and things out of our control. Ask yourself, is what I am worried or stressed about in my control? If it is not in your control, then don’t worry about it. If it is, and it is making you unhappy, what can you do to change it?
Exercise
You don’t have to go run a marathon. Just 20 minutes a day will increase your mood! When you exercise, happy hormones are released from your body and you will literally feel better! Exercise is a great medicine. You can just go on a brisk walk around the block, do yoga, ride your bike! You don’t have to join a gym to get exercise.
Be Grateful
Be grateful for your what you have. Alex Toussaint from the Peloton bike likes to say “Be thankful, you woke up today”. The privilege that we have to just even get up out of bed on our own and walk is something to be thankful for! If I start feeling like I’m having a bad day, I just think about the things that I am grateful for and it makes the feelings of unhappiness go away. Don’t complain about things you don’t have; no matter where you are in life you can always find things to be unhappy about. Count your blessings!
Spend Time on Your Relationships
Surround yourself with people you enjoy being with. If spending time with someone makes you unhappy, then stop spending time with them! People change and relationships change. Instead of spending time on the internet, maybe focus some more time on your spouse or family. There have been many studies that show those with close relationships are happier people.
And that’s all folks! Nothing ground breaking here, just a few things that I do!
Great reminders for us all! I love your colorful table too…definitely makes me happy! Enjoy your weekend!

Inspiring images and lovely wisdom to chew on today – thank you, friend. I’m not a naturally cheerful or joyful person so my list is going to look different – thank goodness not everyone is like me! We need a world of smiling shining faces. The thing about gratitude is that some folks are locked out of it. Truly. So if you feel gratitude swell in your heart…oh my, that is something to be thankful for because it can be elusive even for a person who appears to be inundated with blessings to count. What makes me happy? Growing. Creativity. And beauty. Thanks for sharing yours. 🙂
Angelina,
Good advice does not have to be ground breaking. Often good advice has been tested over time. I think one of the ways to “find happiness” is to recognize all the great things happening every day… which are most often small, simple things that make living worthwhile.
