Princess Eugenie’s Wedding

Princess Eugenie, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth, married Mr. Jack Brooksbank this past week. I am a fan of royal weddings.  I think it is because here in America we don’t have royalty.  Out of all of the royal weddings we’ve watched, this is actually the only wedding where we truly have a Princess Bride.  Meghan and Kate are not technically princesses, however Princess Eugenie is!

The Dress

The fabric was designed by Pilotto and De Vos. It included thistles for Scotland, shamrocks for Ireland, York roses, and ivy as the couple lives at Ivy Cottage at Kensington Palace. These symbols were woven “a garland of rope like motifs, woven into a jacquard of silk, cotton and viscose blend.” The design was then translated into a jacquard weave in Italy. Her  shoes were satin peep-toe heels by Charlotte Olympia, but I can’t find a picture.

The neck folds over the shoulders into a deep V in the back.  Princess Eugenie specifically requested the deep cut on the back to show her scoliosis surgical scar. This is also why she went without a veil. She’s a patron for the hospital where she had her surgery.  I think this is a lovely gesture and sure to inspire!

Cute picture of Princess Eugenie looking at her parents. I actually quite liked the Queen’s outfit below. It was a beautiful blue cashmere coat with gold buttons.

Then they came out of their church to seal it with a kiss. In royal weddings you can’t kiss in church!

The Tiara

She wore the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara.  The diamond and emerald earrings were a gift from her new husband. The tiara was made in 1919 by Boucheron and was given to the Queen in 1942. It is the first time it is seen worn in public by the royal family. You can read more about it here at the Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor.

The Bridal Party

The bridesmaids and page boys wore blue and green on white. Outfits were designed by Amaia Arrieta of Amaia Kids. The patterned blue and green sashes are the same as the Mark Bradford artwork included in the Order of Service.

 The Royal Guests

Princess Beatrice was the maid of honor, but did not have to wrestle with children on the way into the church. She wore Ralph and Russo. Sarah, Duchess of York wore a dress by  Emma Louise Design and a statement hat from Jess Collett Hats.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge wore Alexander McQueen and earrings on loan from the Queen. If you remember, Alexander McQueen designed her wedding dress.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, wore Givenchy. Givenchy had designed Meghan’s wedding dress.

The Flowers

Her bouquet was made of a sprig of myrtle (a tradition since Queen Victoria!) alongside lily of the valley, white roses, iris and ivy.

The flowers were by Rob van Helden.  They reflect the rich tones of Autumn. As you can see there is a variety of roses, hydrangeas, dahlias and berries.

Liquid Amber trees lined the front entrance into the church .

It was quite windy the day of the wedding. Here the help is securing the florals.

The side entrance into the church with a beautiful Fall color palette.  While Prince Harry and Meghan were married here earlier this year, the feeling was different and I think a big part is thanks to the flowers.  Their wedding was held in the Spring and had a completely different feel than this beautiful Fall wedding.

The Cake

The 5-tier wedding cake was created by costume designer turned baker, Sophie Cabot.  It was a red velvet and chocolate wedding cake.  Notice the gold piping at the base, embossed with the letters E J.

surrounded by hand-painted blackberry bramble.

From this bird’s eye view, you can notice the hand-painted blackberry bramble and sugar leaves, all keeping in the theme of the rich colors of Autumn.

The Reception Dress

She wore a second dress by Zac Posen.  The color is a pale rose – reminiscent of an English rose.

Such beauty you’re sharing! What a beautiful bride. My fascination with the royals is really all about love for my mom – she collects royal family everything and since we have British DNA – well that makes it more fun. I will be in London on Wednesday not far from the palace! 🙂
