Best Travel Stroller for Preschoolers

I have been on the hunt for a lightweight travel stroller for my preschooler. Needless to say, I am sick of lugging my UppaBaby Cruz V2 around. It served us well for when my daughter was smaller, but now I need something lightweight. Even though she does do a lot of walking now, I am finding that on longer walks or when it is very hot out, she really wants to be carried. She is now too heavy and big for me to carry for extended periods of time… so enter: The Bugaboo Butterfly!

I spent countless hours trying to decide on the best lightweight travel stroller. I watched every YouTube video I could find, read every article and every internet review. I ultimately chose the Bugaboo Butterfly because it looked like it could hold the tallest, heaviest child AND go in the overhead bin in many airplanes. I am trying to max out how long I can use this stroller – hoping to get through ages 4 and 5 years old with this stroller. The color we chose was desert taupe.

Some quick facts about the Bugaboo Butterfly:

-50 pound weight limit

-17.6 pound weight limit in the basket

-weighs 16.1 pounds

-36.42″ x 17.72″ x 40.31″ unfolded; 17.72″ x 9.06″ x 21.26″ folded

-included carry strap and rain cover

-multiple position recline and adjustable foot rest

-it does have a ride-along comfort wheel board for a second child (sold separately)

Car seat adaptable (sold separately)

Now, this stroller has the highest backrest and weight limit I could find in the lightweight travel stroller category! It measures 21.5″ from seat to the top of the backrest, and then 24.5″ to the very top of the canopy from the seat. The seat itself measures about 10.5″ from the back to the front. It measures 14″ wide in the seat. It also has an adjustable leg rest, which measures also 7″, although I find I have not needed to use it.

It has an adjustable recline. This is a little annoying to move up and down when the child is in it, but it is doable. It has a very generous canopy for sunlight and then a mesh panel too to help air circulate. I found the one-handed fold to be a *little* bit harder than every video I watched. It seems like you have to push the handle bar in a little bit first to get it unlatched. Overall, though, it is a minor complaint.

Cons:

price, it is not the cheapest stroller

it does not include a cupholder or snack tray; both are sold separately. It also does not include a bumper bar – we purchased the bumper bar, but it made folding/unfolding more challenging and less compact, so we returned it.

Bugaboo transport bag sold separately – we did purchase this to help prevent damage on airplanes.

The other strollers we considered and why I did not purchase it:

ZoeBaby Zoe Traveler (but it only holds up to 45 pounds) but the price is right.

Joolz Aer+ lightweight stroller (but the backrest is not as tall, so it does not hold as tall of a child).

City Mini GT2 stroller – holds a bigger, taller child than the Bugaaboo butterfly but it is not a lightweight stroller weighing 22.4 pounds, and cannot fit in the overhead bin.

Bob Stroller – if you are looking for the stroller that holds the highest weight limit at 75lb, this is your stroller. It though is not a travel stroller.

I think the Bugaboo Butterfly stroller is perfect for travel, Disney World, Disneyland, Europe trips, and cruises! And I know I will probably get some comment about why I’m not making my preschooler walk. First, it’s none of your business. Second, when we are traveling, naps and sleep schedules are messed up. Sometimes the little one is tired and wants to be carried, but we have places to go and see, so a stroller is needed. This allows for a nap or just a place to sit (out of the direct sun, too!)

I hope my review of what I think is the best travel stroller for preschoolers helps you. Check out my review of the Disney Aulani Resort

Little Girls Bedroom Makeover – Moving from the Nursery to the “big girl” bed

My little girl recently moved from her crib into her big girl bed. It was a bittersweet day for me. I had spent so much time planning her nursery and the days came and went. Well, needless to say, my little girl was very excited to move into her big girl bed!

For the bed, I had painted a bed I had previously owned. It was black but I did not feel that it fit the whimsical feminine mood of this room.

I used Annie Sloane chalk paint in pure. I used 2 coats on the whole bed, but 3 coats on the headboard. It took me about 2 weeks to make over the bed. I sanded down the globs of paint that I missed to make it nice and smooth after I was done painting.

After sanding, I used Fusion Mineral Paint Tough Coat Matte to apply to the headboard only. I did two coats of this and let it dry. For the flowers and bunny rabbit, I used an appliqué by Iron Orchid Designs. It was really easy to use. It is basically a sticker that you transfer onto the furniture. I would highly suggest watching videos on how to do it. For this project, I combined two designs: “The Botanist” and “Whispering Willow”

Once the designs were transferred, I applied one more coat of the Tough Coat matte on top. This method worked out well for me – I would suggest testing it on a piece of furniture before to make sure it works for you.

I loved how it turned out and so does my daughter!

Since my daughter’s nursery is pink and girly, I thought HEY! Why not a pink tree for her room too?!

Her pink flocked tree is full of snowlady ballerinas (from Hobby Lobby) and other little pink ornaments. While this year she can’t reach this tree, next year I will take all the breakable glass ones off (there are only two ro three).

Her cute little Christmas blanket is from Atelier Choux.

I know I never used to write about children’s shopping finds BUT since I have a daughter now I find myself shopping more for her than for me! As far as I’m concerned, she can wear all the cute clothes and I can wear a grain sack… so long as it’s French 😉

Aren’t all of these outfits like SOOOOO CUTE?!?! Ok I could not figure out how to get these into the widget, so here are they are too!

My Favorite French Children’s Brands and Stores

The French just do some things better, such as croissants, and baby clothes as well! I thought I would share my favorite brands and stores with you (and also for me so I have one convenient place to have them all!)

Petit Bateau® | Quality Clothes for Babies, Children & Adults

Petit Bateau

Classic French brand. Known for Breton stripes and yellow jackets. As of this time, their website does not ship to the US but there are retailers (such as MeliJoe) that do carry them.

Children’s Shops in Paris by Paris

Jacadi

My favorite French brand! Classic colors and shapes. It is a little pricey so I generally just shop the sales. They do ship to the US.

Tartine et Chocolat

Makes the sweetest dresses! Expensive but adorable!

Baby's 2-in-1 dress Black & Navy/cream gingham che+Cream & red/green check

Cyrillus

Another very popular brand in France, but very hard to find in the US!

Vêtement bébé, chambre bébé | Magasin de Mode et Puériculture de ...

Natalys

I actually just discovered this Parisian store while writing this blog and have saved it! However, I was informed by a reader there is no shipping to the USA.

FAUSTINE PINK 5.jpg

Antoinette – Paris

Makes the prettiest special occasion dresses!

Atelier Choux Baby : Clothes & Accessories | Melijoe

Atelier Choux

Makes the CUTEST swaddles and other items for the nursery. They do have a few children’s clothing items such as bibs, one pieces and dresses.

L’Amour Shoes

I don’t know if these are technically French BUT they have a French name and are adorable!

Moulin Roty La Grande Famille Doll House – My Sweet Muffin

Moulin Roty

Children’s toy store with adorable products!

H&M

Yes I know H&M is not French – it is Swedish but I like H&M because not only do they have great prices, but they do have cute children’s clothes. The only caveat is that you have to search for them as IMO there is a lot of ugly items too. I have found some cute dresses, lace collared one pieces, lace socks, waffle knit sweaters – oh yeah, and all 100% cotton.

Stores

MeliJoe

Carries many of the brands that I mentioned above. I love shopping here! Ships to the US.

Du Pareil au meme (DPAM)

A fixture in France – They have great sales, ship to the US. I read they are like the French “Old Navy”. For me, many of their clothes are not quite “classical” enough, but they do have some great bargains.

Maisonette

Ok not technically a store in France, but it has a French name and carries many of the brands I listed and more! Very cute children’s store.

The Tot

Yes not technically a French store, but it also carries many French brands that I listed

Finally have my nursery closet organized and thought you may enjoy seeing what I did with it!

First I used white baskets on the left. They came in several sizes- I actually purchased two of the sizes. This is the larger size. Right now they are holding mostly clothes, but I thought they would be perfect for toys later on too! I used some divided stackable clear bins for socks, tights, knee socks for right now.

For the hanging clothes, I purchased these neat little clothing dividers so I don’t spend my time trying to sort through the sizes!

I divided her hair bows into light and dark colors. I also used a jewelry display to hang some of the bows she wears more frequently and also store the more fragile bows.

I used more clear bins on the other shelves for hats. I also used clear bins to organize The various sizes.

Here are all of my sources. I made the labels myself with my new cricut machine! Totally love that thing.

I have been home with my new baby girl for about a month and boy has it been a whirlwind! The days go by slow, but somehow it has already been a month?

I am sharing my favorite baby items that we use all of the time – some of them were not what I expected them to be!

Munchkin Waterproof Changing Pads – These are a life saver. You put them on top of your changing pad, so when there is a blow out or the baby decides to pee when you change the diaper, you don’t have to change the ENTIRE changing pad linen but you just swipe one of these pads out and put on a new one. They come in a pack of 3.

Baby Brezza Formula Dispenser Machine – This thing should really be called the Keurig for Kids. When I learned I was going to have to supplement with formula, after several nights of listening to screaming baby while I waited for formula to heat up, I’d had enough and decided to bite the bullet and spend $200 on this machine. BEST. DECISION. EVER. You hit a button and within 15 seconds -bam, bottle. You can select body temp, less than body temp, or slightly warmer than body temp. Then it can dispense 2-10oz at a time. To make sure it works properly, ONE you have to go to their website and make sure you are choosing the correct formula so it does the correct water to formula ratio. TWO, you have to clean the little dispenser thing every 4 bottles (it’s easy and no big deal). I’ve read reviews about people saying it does the wrong formula:water ratio, but we haven’t had that problem and I honestly think it is user error.

Baby Wipe Warmer – Ok this isn’t necessarily a MUST have but the baby sure loves it! It keeps your baby wipes warm. Enough said. If you had a preference, would you want your bottom wiped with a wet warm wipe or a wet cold wipe? This is a GREAT item to give to new parents. So far we’ve tried Costco Kirkland brand wipes and Honest Co wipes… The Honest Co wipes fit better in it. The Kirkland brand wipes are a very tight fit to begin with and I have to cut the top plastic thingy off of them, but once you use the first, I don’t know, 20 wipes, the Kirkland brand wipes fit. I can’t say about other brands since we have about 1000 Kirkland wipes right now….

Halo Bassinet – We did not originally have this bassinet purchased. We had a wicker one from PB that used from other family members. Which was fine… except when I had a c-section and found out the wicker bassinet was too low for me to grab the baby from the bassinet. ENTER THE HALO. This bassinet can raise and adjust to various heights and swivel! It made my life so much better- imagine having a c-section and being unable to pick up your newborn from the bassinet because it’s too low? It was SO frustrating. Plus I could not help my husband out at night – he would literally have to get up every single time to pick her up and give me the baby and then put her back down.

Uppababy Cruz V2 Stroller and Mesa Infant Car seat– we LOVE our stroller set that we got!! It is so easy to use – easy to maneuver around, fold up and down, and pop the infant car seat in and out of both the car and the stroller literally with one click. We got it in dusty rose pink, but there are tons of other colors! If you plan to have more than one kid, I would get the Vista stroller as you can fit 2 kids in it!

Boppy Pillow and C section pillow – We use our boppy pillow ALL of the time to feed but when I came home from the hospital after the c-section the boppy would rub right on my incision! Enter the Boppy Best Latch pillow – perfect for post c-sections! It has a soft and hard side of the pillow with a little belt that goes around you so the baby doesn’t get lost in “the boppy black hole!”

The list could be longer… but the baby is crying so I’m off and running!

French Country Girl’s Nursery Reveal

Today is the day! My baby girl’s nursery reveal!! I am so excited to share it with you!

The nursery design started with wallpaper. I always knew that I wanted to wallpaper the nursery. I started searching for the perfect wallpaper and loved this one! It is a very cute bunny toile in grey and white. We chose a nice grey paint to complement it below the chair rail. We felt that if the wallpaper went all the way to the floor it would be a little overwhelming for the entire room.

I also always knew that I wanted to have a bed crown over the crib. I know it is a little bit over the top but I love it!! Don’t worry – it is safe and secure and will not topple down and cannot be pulled down. When she gets to the age when she starts grabbing onto things, we will likely have to remove the linen coming down from it. Do not fret – we will keep her safe!

The crib will convert to a toddler bed. We chose a petal pink velvet to go on the crib and other furniture as our cat *loves* linen. Anything linen would be destroyed.

Pictured below is the diaper changing table and dresser. A love her little swan rocker that she can use when she is a little older! I ultimately decided to go with white furniture even though on my inspiration board I had a lot of grey furniture picked out. It just looked better when they were all put together.

The other side of the room has a bookcase and glider. We will be spending many hours on the glider together! I love the pink velvet tufted ottoman as well. The giant pink rectangle on the wall is a pinboard. I remembered when I grew up in a wallpapered room it was nice having a pinboard as my mom wouldn’t let me put 100 holes in the wall to hang up my artwork and Spice Girl magazine cut outs!

A closer look at her bookcase. Many of the stuffed animals were mine.

This is a cute little piece of artwork I found that is on in a corner in her room! It has bunnies on the alphabet.

I hope you enjoyed the nursery tour!! I am thankful we ordered our furniture literally months ago as I fear if we had waited it would not have arrived on time!

We are so excited to welcome our baby girl into the world!! A huge shout out to my parents who did a majority of the work with the remodel this room. I wasn’t allowed to do anything but supervise – with the cat’s help, of course.

I think my nesting is complete now 🙂

Nursery Update

It is just about a month away before our baby girl arrives! Our nursery is *almost* complete, but before I get into the big reveal (still have to hang a few things at the time that I wrote this post), I thought I would share my mood board! Here is a link to my nursery inspiration post.

Below is my “fancy” mood board I made! I used to make mood boards with Adobe Photoshop, but recently I’ve just been using the app called “Layout” by Instagram – it is a super easy way to make a photo collage.

As you can see, I am going for a softer color palette: Greys, white, pastel pink. With a touch of gold!

If you read my blog, it should come as no surprise that I like the French and Gustavian type furniture. Of COURSE she is going to have a bed crown too!! I’ve been trying to get a bed crown over my own bed for a while but have yet to find a fabric I am happy with!

The wallpaper I found is a cute bunny toile in grey and white. I wanted it to be something that could go with lots of different colors should she choose say when she’s a bit older that she hates pink and wants blue in her room – then the grey will go with it. That’s right, I don’t intend to take the wallpaper down for a while (or ever! hahah I can dream – it is so annoying to put up and take down).

It’s fun seeing my mood board and how my room actually turned out! I guess you will all have to wait and see—SOON!

Being pregnant during this pandemic has not been what I expected. It has been hard at times to feel full of joy (what I hear you’re supposed to experience?) when the world is feeling sad.

That said, I can’t wait to share my nursery with you all.

Hope you are all doing well and hanging in there!
