I am sharing pink bathroom inspiration as Valentine’s Day is around the corner. I also have a feeling that the pink bathrooms of yesteryear will be making a return to design but with a modern twist.
First though, I had to start with this very glamorous pink bathroom!
Design by J Randall Powers as featured in Veranda Magazine
Modern tile in a blush pink shade… this is the sort of modern twist I think we will be seeing in the next two pictures below.

If I were to do a pink bathroom in my house though, it would be more something like this (granted I know it is more green than pink)

Ever since I watched a recent episode of Fixer Upper where Joanna Gaines used White Appliances in the kitchen, I thought…. wow, I have NOT seen white appliances in kitchen features in magazines, etc in a long time!

I am helping someone pick out chandeliers for their kitchen island. I figured I would share some of my favorite budget chandeliers for the kitchen (and dining room!) since I have them all bookmarked already! We are going for a more modern look with the lights in this kitchen. Most of the chandeliers I have linked come in a variety of finishes – not just what I had pictured.
First I’m sharing some budget choices and then I’m sharing the luxury inspiration! I’ve made note of the dupes/copycats!
Modern Farmhouse Linear Chandelier Lantern – very similar to Darlana noted below -$270 vs $1000 – and the one we chose. Thinking about adding little shades to the lights.
Now the below chandeliers are NOT budget picks but were the inspiration! (Note how some look very similar to our budget finds and could be considered copycats or dupes!!)

While I Loooove French Country, Gustavian and English country decor, I also love modern farmhouses. I love the look of them on the outside – the only thing I would do different often time is just fill the house with European antiques instead!
When I saw this beautiful house in Architectural Digest that belongs to Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis of That 70’s Show fame, I knew I had to share a few pictures. The design is by Howard Backen and Vicky Charles.
The entertainment barn!
I quite like the ceiling and huge floor to ceiling windows. But I can’t help but wonder, doesn’t it get hot with the California sun blaring in?
The dining room
I LOVE their pool and BBQ pavilion!
I love the tile floor in their kitchen, but otherwise it is a little modern for my tastes, but pretty nonetheless.
And here is a pic of their couple, again in their entertainment barn. That chandelier is breathtaking! I like the juxtaposition of the elegant crystals in a barn!

Let’s dream up a new house to build together. Would you choose black or white exterior windows? ( What TYPE of house you ask? Some European inspired Farmhouse of some sort!)
Let’s talk white exterior windows. They are classic and timeless. Black/bronze windows seem to be trendy right now. Well, really, black windows against a White House even more so!
Let’s look at some white windows first. (I notice incidentally that every house I chose here has white paint. I think now maybe I should write about “the white exterior paint trend”… hmmm….)
Now, what would you choose? I don’t really think you can go wrong, at least with white houses. I like the modern feeling of the darker windows, but I also like the classic white too! I do know ONE thing… inside the house, I would NOT choose black. But that is for a post for another day.

Love that French country / Provence garden look? Me too! Let’s read how we can emulate it in our own gardens (well, assuming you live in the right climate zone for these plants).

Plants and trees
The trees typically seen in a Provincial garden are Italian cypress trees, olives, sycamore (plane) trees, hornbeam. The plants that are usually seen are lavender, roses, little Ollie, boxwood, nepeta, sage, and wisteria. Plants are typically done in repeat and in masses. They will be sculpted to add variety but often times color palette is not too varied.
Let’s just study this photo below, which is of Chateau Mireille.
Chateau Mireille, as seen at Haven In
Notice the gravel first. A yellowish gravel in medium size grind. There isn’t a large variety of plants but lots of the same on repeat. Notice the boxwood all shaped into squares and on repeat. Notice the larger bushes in the back – all shaped into spheres. Notice the use of pots here and there. Notice how each area has a little destination.
Ok, let’s study this next photo. This is a beautiful garden, Saint Cannat by Thomas Gentilini.
Let’s see. Same yellow gravel. Little destinations to go to. Boxwood used to create shapes. Bushes formed into balls. There is an orchard of olives in the distance. There are cypress trees scattered. A pool serves as a water entire but there is also an old fountain too.
Under the shade of an old sycamore tree, hydrangeas make an appearance en mass. There are pots used for plants that are shaped into spheres. And that same gravel.
Boxwood hedges sculpted serve as a border. Pots with bushes sculpted into spheres. In this case, multiple water features since it is a huge chateau. There are sculpted hornbeam trees in a row.
Are you getting the idea? Yes, you say, but you showed me pictures of chateaus and I don’t live in one! I know, but you can take these ideas and translate it to your own backyard.
For instance, look below. Let’s say you had fence on all three sides of your backyard. You could get a small wall fountain (the one below is large). Put some gravel down. Here they used agapanthus planted in large masses, with vines on the back wall. You could plant little ollies, lavender, hydrangea (whatever grows where you are but planted in large amounts). Put some vines on your back fence with a fountain – jasmine, wisteria, climbing rose. You could plant say, two hornbeam or two olive trees and put boxwood around them to make it a focal point, and put a table and chairs underneath to make a nice dining spot.
If you are starting a new garden I’ll also give you a tip (if you live in California) – things here grow so well and fast that I wouldn’t spend the extra money on the bigger plants.
Tree alleys are classic! Yes, the photo above is Versailles, but do you have a driveway? Can you plant tall skinny trees on either side? Or what about a walkway to your front door? Can you plant some small cypress trees? (They come in mini, medium, and standard!)
After our case studies, have you figured out what we need for our French country garden?

I have been watching Studio McGee’s show on Netflix and Chip and Joanna’s Fixer Upper Welcome Home and it seems that green is having a moment in the limelight (see what I did there?)
The first thing that comes to my mind with green rooms is Tory Burch’s apartment:

Then she did a store too:
this is actually a Tory Burch Store
The following are all from Studio McGee projects:
Green paint isn’t anything new in the design world though, such as below in a historic house.
Calke Green by Farrow and Ball is a clean sage green, inspired by the breakfast room at Derbyshire’s historic Calke Abbey.

I have noticed as I peruse new (dream) kitchens that a trend that has emerged is the double island kitchen. It seems as though the second island is often used as replacement for the former breakfast nook and is used mainly for storage and seating.
Last one… my kitchen! Yes it has a double island. I don’t have a good pic of it with both the islands in it. I’d go shoot another one but that would require me to clean.
