In this post – Setting a French Country Table with Peonies and Sweet Peas

This post may contain affiliate links.

Peonies are my favorite flower, as you all know! I named my blog after them!

Then on the way home with the peonies, we pulled over to pick some strawberries from a local stand and they had sweet peas too!

Setting this French country style table was simple.  I pulled out a French linen runner for the center.

I used two small Juliska vases to hold the sweet peas.

The colors of the sweet peas are so pretty! Prettier than the ones at the store!

The blue goblets go with the runner.  I also love the new plates from Aerin at WS.

Each place setting has a sweet pea nestled on the plate.

I just love peonies. They are so photogenic!

The peony season is short lived so I had to take many photos!

The sweet peas only lasted 2 days! I couldn’t believe how short-lived they were!

A last look at this French country table!

Don’t you love fresh flowers?

I love ranunculus and, well, flowers in general and love to have a least one bouquet of fresh flowers in the house every week.

I was inspired to create this vignette from a recent antique find – a plate that is claimed to be Sevres but that I am not too sure of! Either way, I like it!

I love the little statue on the left.

I gathered a few pink accessories to round out the vignette.

You can create a successful vignette in your home too with a simple color scheme.

Love the pink boxes – some are from Paris and the round one is from Target!

I love pink and white, don’t you?

Well, it seems it is halfway through Spring and I am just now posting my Spring home tour!

Above a Louis chair covered in blue velvet with beautiful orange ranunculus!

On the front porch is this fun vintage English market basket!

A beautiful blue hydrangea adds a pop of color!

On the other side of the porch, a cymbidium orchid is blooming in the blue Madeliene Anduze pot.

When you walk inside you see the dining table!

I just love the color combos here! You can see the full Spring table post here.

I had just cut some ranunuculus from my garden and they are resting in the French market basket.

Here’s a peek at our Spring master bedroom.

Perhaps it was the only day the bed was made… haha.

Never showed on the blog before but I just love my collection of purple transfer ware!

I had fun moving my pitcher around and taking pictures!

 I love these ranunculus!

I also love this French chair!

Doesn’t the orange look good against the velvet?

Decided to move these ranunculus to a table!

One of my favorite things to do is to ride my bike!

Last Christmas my MIL got me these baskets for my bike and I love them!!!

The baskets are perfect for picking flowers!

The citrus trees are all blooming and it smells so good!

Orange Blossoms are my favorite scent (hence the blog name!)

Chloe wanted the window open to smell the orange blossoms too!

I took these pics a little while ago, but time got away from me.  I had decreased my number of posts per week so this got pushed back!

The beautiful centerpiece may be wilted by now, but the citrus trees are still blooming…

I love Spring – it is one of my favorite times of year!  This year I had so much fun at the flower market picking out flowers for this table.

Recently I have been drawn to the color orange – I wrote about that here in my coral/persimmon inspiration post. I think it is because the orange makes blue look even better!

I love using my tulipiere.

It is such an usual vase.

The tulipiere is filled with three different colors of ranunculus and two-toned tulips.

Little sprigs of Muscari finish the look and their bright blue goes so well with the oranges and peach colors!

I took a hundred pictures. I couldn’t stop snapping.

Snap snap snap.

The pink goblets are vintage French.

The blue plate and goblet are Juliska.

I found these in the drawer and forgot I had them – oops, should have used them for the Easter table!

Oh well, this is a Spring table and let me tell you – we have *hundreds* of rabbits around here.

Jack rabbits – not the cute fluffy kind.

These rabbits have snaggle teeth and huge pointy ears – and boy can they run!

Yah… run into my garden and eat it if the fence gate is open!

Snap snap snap.

I wish the flowers would stay like this forever and not wilt.

About these tea light candle holders – they were bronze in color but we painted them years ago. I try to envision again how they look in bronze.

The table cloth goes nicely with the pinks and blues!

The table cloth is antique.  It is a Madeira table cloth.  It is made of organdy, applique, and embroidery.

Snap snap snap.

Don’t you love the blue with the orange? J’adore.

Ok maybe I should have edited this post and taken one of these photos out.

But I can’t. I love them all.

This table is perfect for the Spring – but could easily convert to a Fall table with changing of the table cloth and the candle holders!

How to Create a Romantic Reading Nook

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

This is one of the spots in my house that I like to sit and read a book.

This post may contain affiliate links.

It is perfect because there is natural light from the window.  There are also two chairs to sit in – one if you are feeling like you need to have good posture (the antique French chair) – or a couch that you can lay back and relax on.

Creating your own romantic reading nook is simple.

You just need a pretty throw, some flowers (fresh or faux!), a nice smelling candle, and a cup of tea or coffee!

I have here one of my favorite flowers – ranunculus. I didn’t use them too frequently until when I used them in my wedding bouquet – now they are one of my favorites!

I am burning my absolute favorite candle – Baies. The smell of roses fills the air.  There is a cheaper copycat version of my favorite candle here – and yes, I use this one too!

I have a teacup here too – a vintage one, but you can use any mug or cup!

This French table was one of my first antiques I bought right out of college – my Mom was surprised when I gravitated towards this Louis XV style table with gilding!!

The lamp by the way just has an antique Staffordshire figure sitting on the base. It is not attached.

Here are a few of my favorite books that I have been reading…

A Day in the Life with Marie Antoinette
This book is a gorgeous book (the one that is in my pictures above). If you love Versailles or Marie Antoinette Style you have to check out this book!

Traditional Interiors by Leta Austin Foster

I love her work as an interior designer. If you love Traditional style with a touch of English, French, or Gustavian – this book is for you!

Beautiful by Mark Sikes
He runs a very popular blog and he came out with this book that every one is praising about. For me, it is not quite *my* style but the book is beautiful nonetheless!

Finding French Country Style in the Napa Valley – Napa Valley Trip

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

One of my favorite day trips is to head to the Napa Valley.

Today we are focusing on finding French country style in the Napa Valley.

As you head into Napa, first you can stop off at this beautiful French inspired Chateau!

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

When I first saw this building I squealed in delight! For a moment I thought I was in France!  We did a U-turn and found ourselves at Domaine Carneros.  Yes, this is technically a Domaine and not a Chateau.  I blogged about the difference here. For a refresher, basically a Domaine is a Chateau with a vineyard!

The grounds were beautiful but unfortunately the interior of the Chateau was nothing special!

Although, they did carry chocolates from Angelina’s Paris, if you find yourself in a need for some!

They do have a terrace to sit and enjoy the view, and a little bar (of course) for those who drink wine.

Our next stop is in Yountville, at Bouchon Bakery.

There is *always* a line but it is worth the wait.

Word of advice – never buy a croissant after 11am.  Not just here, but *anywhere*.

Hmm…. which sweet do you pick out?

We *always* get a pain d’epi baguette.  It is the BEST.  I could eat a whole loaf by myself.  I strongly recommend you stop here.

There is also Bouchon Bistro – a great place to get lunch and dinner and then the famous three-michelin star French Laundry restaurant.  All of these are by Thomas Keller.

Our next French inspired stop is Peju Winery.

Isn’t the building so cute?

 I loved their entrance gates!

And their garden statues. This leads to a little Koi pond.

During this time of year the mustard is in full bloom. Even Winter in Napa is beautiful!

The tulip tree was blooming… I just love this tree! Aren’t the blooms beautiful?

After Peju, head to Dean & Deluca, a gourmet food grocery.  They carry Mariage Freres Tea, amongst many other specialty items.

Next, we do some shopping in St. Helena.

This horse head has been sitting in this antique shop in St. Helena for a long time, and every time I go I stare it at it… but it is too expensive!

One of my must-stop shops in Olivier Napa Valley. They carry Pillivuyt and many other French products!

Some glasses came home with me…

I smelled a bunch of these soaps. Isn’t the antique butchers block neat?

Yes I brought home some plates too…

Next, let’s head to Napa Valley Vintage Home.

I LOVE this shop. Below is a collection of Astier de Villate.

A collection of Cire Trudon candles. I always smell them all when I am there!

Grab a sandwich either at Model Bakery or my FAVORITE sandwich shop (ever!!!), Giugni’s. If you are eating a Giugni’s, you must bring cash!

There is a little park nearby, you can take your sandwich and have a picnic or take your sandwich to a beautiful winery and have a little picnic there.

Next, head up to Calistoga to Calistoga Country Antiques (1117 Lincoln Ave).

Now, open the windows up and enjoy the scenery on your trip home.

Modern French Country Table Setting in Pantone’s Greenery

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

I was inspired by Pantone’s color of the year, Greenery, when I was putting together this table setting.

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

I don’t know about you all, but I am ready for Spring green and this table reflects that!
I was a little uncertain about Pantone’s color of the year this year, but now that it’s getting near Spring…. I am READY and find that it is perfect!

My mom is very good at sewing and whipped up these placemats for me in one night! (Thanks, Mom!) Don’t they look nice with the pops of green on the tulipiere?

I love the tulipiere, which is the name of the tall vase in the center of the table. It takes about 3 dozen flowers to fill it up!

I chose white mini lisianthus and white tulips to go with the fuzzy filler.

I honestly don’t know the name of these fuzzy branches, but aren’t they fun?

I thought the modern ikat print of the placemats and the out-of-this-world fuzzy green branches added a modern touch to an otherwise French country table!

Are you including Pantone’s “Greenery”, the color of 2017 into your home decor?

I thought this was a perfect way to add the fashionable color without investing too much into the trend! Shop the post:

A Modern French Country Table in Pantone’s Greenery color of the year.

This would also make for a great St. Patrick’s Day themed table!

Romantic French Country Pink Tablescape for Valentine’s Day!

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Today I am sharing this romantic French Country Tablescape in Pink for Valentine’s Day!

I am in love with the color pink right now and this Valentine’s Day table reflects that!

For this table I used my tulipiere as my centerpiece. It is framed by antique candlesticks, mercury glass candle holders, and bud vases.

The fresh eucalyptus branches add a nice touch. I love these little bud vases – I will never get sick of them!

For this Valentine’s Day pink look, I was going for an ombre effect on the tulipiere with tulips and spray roses.

My favorite part of this table is how it looks at night with the candles glowing!

The pink mercury glass candle holders were from my wedding! We had them on all of the tables just like above and it was so pretty at night!

The bud vases look so cute with the tulips in them!

I did not set the plates and silverware out just yet… but we have been dining here! It takes an ordinary meal to an elegant one if you dine by candlelight!

Wall Mounted Faucets in the Powder Room

For my regular readers, you may have noticed that I have not written about our French farmhouse building progress in a while.  This is mainly because there was delay after delay and I was becoming very unexcited about the whole thing.  No one seemed to be in a hurry, so why should I?

Well things have finally progressed, ground has moved, etc. It is quite boring to post pictures of concrete and framing.  So instead, let’s look at wall mounted faucets for the powder room.
This post may contain affiliate links.

source chateau domingue

My powder room will have two sconces next to a mirror.  I wanted the space to feel luxurious as it is one the guests would use the most.

I debate about a vessel sink, haven’t quite decided yet.

source zillow

I suppose it depends on the cabinet.

source dreamy whites blog

I love all of these different inspiration photos!

source Jenkins interiors

Now, I have to find a vanity for the powder room.  I like the cabinets below but they are not bathroom vanities! I considered turning them into bathroom vanities but they are too tall! I would LOVE to find one that is similar but in a vanity!

Let’s look at some of the faucets…
There were the ones that I was looking at.

But I like this aged brass one below

And then This one below; but it is more modern and simple.

This one below too is nice.

We ended up choosing the first one in unpolished brass. I hope I like how it ages!

Do you know of a company besides Restoration Hardware that sells French or Swedish looking bathroom vanities? If so, leave me a comment!!

SO I am so excited because I just discovered that two of my favorite companies have partnered together to create a limited edition line for Valentine’s Day!

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

Diptyque, a wonderful French fragrance house, and Antoinette Poisson, a French creator and restorer of domino paper have partnered and created this luscious line of products! I wrote about Antoinette Poisson here in a post.

a limited edition domino -sold out.
Alright, the scent below is Rosamundi. Here is the description of the candle: This candle offers a pairing of the two most exquisite roses used in perfumery: Damascena, the Damask rose, and Centifolia, the May rose. They are celebrated for the variety and richness of their scents; a story is told as they bloom. In the top note, currant and bergamot provide freshness, the lychee’s fruitiness complements their petals, and the geranium enhances their naturalness.

If you like the Baies candle or like rose candles, you will love this one! Get the 2.4oz candle, or the larger  6.5oz candle

Next is a Multi Use SprayA rare eau with many applications, scenting both skin and fabric. Its scent has the natural grace of rose, the freshness of foliage and a slight, almost undetectable trace of patchouli. To scent fabrics, spray the Eau Dominotée at a distance.
I bought this and it is WONDERFUL! It smells so nice!

The is a perfect gift for Valentine’s Day: the Eau Rose Travel Perfume in limited edition packaging. If you like rose perfumes than this one will be your favorite!

I totally have an obsession with this French fragrance house. I love all of their products. They even had limited edition scented papers for your linen drawers but they have sold out.

Victoria Tv Show

Did you start watching the Victoria tv show on PBS which premiered this past weekend? If not, it’s not too late to start watching this season!
Well, here is my first review.
It’s hard not to compare it to the Crown given that they both are period pieces about English Queens!
The Crown was better in every way, however, that being said, I really enjoyed Victoria and if you like period tv dramas (Downton Abbey, the Crown, Outlander, Mr. Selfridge) then you will like this show!
It follows the life of Queen Victoria. The costumes and sets are beautiful, however the Queen seems so much more childish than Queen Elizabeth – and perhaps she was!

Remember earlier when I said I had the post-holiday blues?

I wasn’t kidding.

So this blue and white tablescape seemed appropriate for my mood.

This post may contain affiliate links. See my disclosure policy.

I haven’t put together a blue and white table before, so this was nice and refreshing.

The china is Juliska Country Estate and Colette in blue.

The vases are filled with white roses, blue thistles, and variegated geranium leaves.

I really liked these blue thistle stems.  Don’t they look cute in my little bud vase from Astier de Villate (hauled it from Paris!).

The table cloth is antique Point de Venise.  We put the lace table cloth on top of some blue velvet fabric! It really allows you to appreciate the fine work on it!

Some antique cut glass candlesticks add glamour!

Oh, about the candles-  they are no drip! When I burn them, they don’t make a big ol’ mess like my other candles. I found them at Home Goods.

I liked this picture from above- it shows the pretty table cloth!

Putting together this table, even though no one is coming over, has lifted my mood.  The flowers are so pretty.

Do you ever set the table just for yourself?

What I like about the Juliska ceramic dinnerware is that they are microwave, oven, freezer, and dishwasher safe!

Pretty Decor is BACK in 2017

We use affiliate links in our posts and our site. This means if you make a purchase using these links, we may earn a small commission. You don’t pay a cent more than you would otherwise! Our full disclosure is available under About.

Let’s talk about some design trends coming back for 2017, specifically, the return of pretty decor.
Pretty is timeless and never goes out of style. Pretty is soft, soothing, feminine. Pretty is not bold, jarring, or unsettling.
I predict we will be seeing the return of more pretty traditional decor this year.  In a year when people feel uncertain about the future, people will be looking for comfort and coziness in their homes.  They want to feel safe. But it is 2017, so it will be pretty traditional decor – with a twist!
This post may contain affiliate links.

Cathy Kincaid

You see, I have always liked the pretty.  After all, I grew up in a bedroom covered in fabulous Mario Buatta wallpaper (that, per my Mother, *I* actually picked out when I was only several years old).

The wallpaper of my childhood. I still like it!

Wallpaper is making a comeback.

We haven’t really seen it in a while! I predict it will be used more as we look to add more texture to our rooms. I am going to wallpaper the powder room definitely. I am currently undecided about wallpaper in other rooms. But isn’t this room pretty??

Leta Austin Foster

Bring on the chintz and floral prints.

Now, you have to be careful not to go too “Grandma” or 1980s.  We will need to keep to soft color palette to keep it fresh.

Ritz Paris

Cathy Kincaid – curtains are Colefax and Fowler “Bowood”

Don’t be scared of fancy sconces and chandeliers.

It’s okay to add some crystal and gilding. Scones (err, sconces, I must be hungry) are a beautiful way to add indirect light to your house! Industrial-style lights are feeling tired to me. An ornate light will be on trend.

Cathy Kincaid

Dark wood furniture is coming back!

I have some fabulous antique French pieces that I cannot and will not paint just because they are dark wood!  Not everything needs to be painted white! If it is a solid quality piece of furniture, trends come and go, but good solid furniture stays!

I think the key to bringing the dark furniture back into the room is to mix and match, like below. Don’t keep the matchy match bedroom set, for example. That is out.

David Easton

Again, different color woods are all paired together below. (And I want a dressing table like that one – making a note to self, also I love this wallpaper)

Mark Hampton for Aerin Lauder (using Toile de Nantes Fabric)

I need some softness with lots of drapery.

Bring on the bed cornice and canopies! Also, the return of the valance. Have you missed the valance? I have!!! I think we will be seeing more traditional draperies of the past return. Don’t you miss them?

Ritz Paris

Heather Dewberry and Will Huff

More is More.

Yes, fill your walls. You can use gilded frames and furniture. Put out your beautiful treasures for all to see!  Don’t stuff everything in the cabinets – display your heirlooms!

Charlotte Moss

How I intend to incorporate these elements in my own home is to use more pastel colors. By using the more of the pastel colorways, these “older” trends can seem new again.  The French and Gustavian color palettes are my favorite.

Kate Forman Designs

Lucky for me, pretty colors are making their way back into decor.  How do I know? The Pantone colors of 2016 and 2017 are definitely Spring colors.  Spring colors are pretty.  The greenery color of this year is bright, however I could see it used in an accent color as a pillow or in part of a floral patterned fabric.

I am bored of burlap and grain sacks.  I am bored of the industrial look. I am bored of all-white.

We need a little more softness and more romance added to our home decor!

Alex Papachristidis

Now some of the rooms (like the one above) are a little too *much* for my house personally, but I really do enjoy looking at them! Don’t you just want to curl up on the couch and read a book and sip a cuppa?

Mark Sikes

You see, my family and I have a theory.  The toned down minimalist all-neutral trend started around the time of the recession.
It was a time when perhaps all of the color and all of the “more” was feeling too ostentatious for a recession. So we all started looking towards a paired down look. It seems it has been sticking around for the past 10 years.
I mean, even white took over in 2006 as the most popular car color!

Kathryn Ireland

But, it’s a new year and trends are always changing.
The traditional decor will return with a twist – pastel colors mixed with different textures in the room with a piece of modern art or furniture to make it fresh.  Not that traditional decor was ever out-of-style, but we will be seeing more of it!
Having pretty “Granny” decor will be chic.

And, by the way, I’m not the only one who thinks this way: Vogue thinks so too.
